Is a Facebook Page Enough? Why Your Small Business Needs a Website
The other day, I was talking to my husband about a friend of his. The friend has a small side business doing excavation, grading, and some other site prep work. We are looking to redo our side yard and have been looking at some contractors to dig out some dirt so that we can lay a patio. I asked my husband if his friend had a website, to which he replied “no, but he has a Facebook page.”
This got me thinking. I know so many people who think a Facebook or Instagram page is enough for their small business. I disagree! I believe every small business needs a website, even if they're active on social media. Here's why:
Websites Build Credibility
A website adds credibility to your business. In today's digital age, customers expect businesses to have a website. A well-designed website shows that you are a professional and established business.
You’re in Control
You have complete control over your website's content and design. Unlike social media platforms, you are not limited by their templates or rules. You can create a website that perfectly reflects your brand and message.
Reach More People
A website can help you reach a wider audience. Search engines like Google can index your website, making it easier for potential customers to find you. You control ranking through SEO.
Marketing Powerhouse
A website is a great way to market your business. You can show off your services, collect email addresses from interested customers, and build relationships. Imagine if Facebook or Instagram disappeared tomorrow. Where would your customers go? A website gives you a place to connect with them no matter what.
24/7 Customer Service
Your website can answer customer questions anytime, day or night. You can include a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section, your contact information, and even a live chat feature. It's like having an employee working 24 hours a day!
Know Your Audience
Websites have tools that track how many people visit and what they look at. This helps you understand what your customers are interested in so you can improve your business. While social media has some information, websites give you much deeper insights.
I'm not saying you should get rid of your social media pages – they're still helpful! But a website and social media together are a super powerful combination. A website is a key tool that every small business owner should have.
